Privacy policy

What we collect

Nothing you type. When you pick a material and give us the size of the pile, the arithmetic happens on your device and the answer is written into the page address so you can bookmark it or send it to whoever is doing the job. That address stays with you. The site is static files with no database behind it, so there is nowhere here for your answers to be stored even if we wanted them.

One exception, and we would rather name it than bury it: when the tool produces an answer we count that it happened, and which kind of answer it was. That is under Traffic measurement below. It is a tally, not a record of you.

There are no accounts, no sign-in, no forms, and no newsletter.

Traffic measurement

We count two things the tool does, so we can tell whether it is any use. The first is that a calculation finished, sent with a single word describing which kind of answer you got — whether it came out as a bag, a box size, a fill line, or a redirect to a different service. The second is that someone clicked through to Amazon, sent with the word bag.

That single word is the entire message. There is no cookie, no identifier of any kind, nothing that could link two visits together, and nothing about what you are actually throwing away. The list of words we are allowed to send is fixed in our source code, so free text cannot end up in it even by mistake.

We keep counts, not visits. We can tell you that eleven people got a fill-line answer yesterday; we have no way to tell whether that was eleven people or one person eleven times, and it is built so that we never can.

We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they land on. It does not use cookies, does not fingerprint your device, and does not build a profile of you across sites. We see aggregate counts, not individuals.

Our host keeps ordinary server records of requests, as every web host does, which we see only as aggregate traffic figures.

Affiliate links

This site participates in the Amazon Associates Program. When the tool works out that a dumpster bag suits your load better than a rented container, the link to buy that bag earns us a commission on qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you. The link is labelled where it appears.

It is worth being blunt about the incentive: we get paid when you buy the bag, and we do not get paid when you rent a dumpster instead. So the tool tells you when a container would also hold your load, and says so on the same screen as the link. If the numbers say a dumpster is the better answer, that is what you will be told.

Advertising

This site carries ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technology to serve and measure ads, and in some cases to personalise them based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

You can turn off personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, and opt out of third-party vendors' cookies at aboutads.info. Google's own explanation of what it collects when you use a partner site is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

We do not have access to what those cookies contain, and we cannot tie them to anything you did in the sizing tool, because your answers never leave your device — the only thing the tool reports is the bare counts described under Traffic measurement, which carry nothing that identifies you.

Links to other sites

Some pages link elsewhere, including Amazon and our own howmanyboxes.com and whatsizestorage.com. Once you follow a link, that site's privacy policy applies, not this one.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.

Your rights

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to hand over, correct, or delete on request.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
